About Us

Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra is a local non-professional orchestra serving the towns of Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport-on-Severn and the wider community of the Wyre Forest area of the West Midlands. We give three concerts a year, plus charity concerts, and other musical events as and when they offer the opportunity.

The conductor is Richard Toomer and the leader is Jenifer Smith.

Soloists

The orchestra offers a solo platform to nationally recognised artists, as well as talented local amateur soloists in its concertos and other solo works. The 2005-6 season saw a quartet of horns (Nicky Daw, Hazel Whitefoot, Alison Bach and Simon Hall) perform the Concertstück by Schumann.

Other soloists have included Nathaniel valois (violin), Nikki Loveridge (clarinet), Aydin Onaç (piano), Troels Svane (cello) from Denmark, Nina Nannar (narrator) from BBC Midlands Today, Robert Bishop (violin) from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth MacDonald (soprano), Jeremy Foster (oboe), Tim Barber (trumpet) and Richard Jenkinson (Principal cello CBSO) .

Twin Town—Husum, North Germany

WFSO has strong links with its twin town orchestra, the Collegium Musicum Nordfriessland, formerly conducted by Thomas Weise. Members of WFSO enjoyed a successful and enjoyable exchange in 2003.
